EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ALTERNATIVE TEXTBOOKS




Textbooks, which are the main source of knowledge have been vital for the development of the education system in almost all times during the teaching process of young generation. Textbook policy in our country has been developed and modernized based on world experience. However, there are still some shortcomings in the process of textbook development. Some of these shortcomings have been identified in international assessment studies. The idea of “Alternative Textbooks” was brought up in order to eliminate the identified shortcomings and bring our education in line with international standards. The article describes the process of preparing alternative textbook sets, their application and evaluation of their effectiveness. The high performance of the first grade students in the assessment survey, in which the spare textbooks were applied, formed the basis for the mass use of these textbooks.
