AN EXAMPLE OF LIVING TRADITIONAL ARTS: FELT AND A CRAFTSMEN




The historical roots of felt is based on quite old in traditional craft. The Turks has production in this area dating back to the Central Asia
of before Christ. Today the production of felt is decreased due to emerging technologies and changing lifestyles. However, some of the
masters began to reproduce declining production of traditional felt. Felt became the products that have functional usage area. Celalettin
Berberoglu is a good example in this regard who continuing efforts in the production of traditional felt and lives in Konya. He produces felt areas like clothes, accesories etc. It is important to pass on this forgotten traditional art to future generations. It should be added to the curriculum in schools as a forgotten material culture element. In this study will be focus on examples of reproduction in different functional areas of felt which produced for traditional ground cloth purposes in the past.
