INITIATIVES RELATED TO TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: THE POSITION OF SCHOOL PRINCIPALS

Teachers’ professional development is a key component of the educational improvement process, closely aligned with enhancing teaching quality and improving student outcomes. The primary purpose of this study is to explore the perspectives of school principals regarding initiatives aimed at raising the professional competence of teachers. A review of the literature reveals that school principals regard professional development as essential for improving teaching quality, addressing evolving educational demands, and increasing teacher satisfaction. They also emphasize the importance of aligning professional development activities with school improvement goals and removing barriers to effective implementation. This study employs a qualitative research method. Findings indicate that school principals view initiatives to enhance teachers’ professional competencies as having a significant impact on overall school effectiveness and success. According to the participants, investing in continuous teacher training not only improves teaching quality but also contributes positively to student achievement, teacher satisfaction, and the broader goals of school improvement.
