Mass bilingualism is accepted as an inevitable social phenomenon in a multinational society. Researchers have also demonstrated the significance of bilingualism for the brain. Moreover, a bilingual or multilingual person adapts to the environment more easily. With the development of science and technology, there is a wider demand for a leading foreign language. During the modern era, the influence of the English language has been increased in the majority of all countries. However, as the boundaries of international languages expand and their functions increase, local languages gradually decline and sometimes meet the threat of extinction. The current article demonstrates the positive and negative sides of multilingualism and talks about the danger of having an international language for local languages.
