SOME ISSUES OF THE TRANSITION TO 12-YEAR EDUCATION IN THE GENERAL EDUCATION SYSTEM

The article analyzes issues related to the transition of general education institutions to the 12-year education system in the Republic of Azerbaijan. Also, the application of the 12-year education system in general education schools in international practice is discussed, and brief information is provided about the educational levels and models applied within the framework of the 12-year education system in various countries’ general education schools. The plan of pro-reform measures prepared and implemented for the transition to the 12-year education system in general educational institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan is also mentioned. The author also proposes models of educational levels necessary to implement in the 12-year education system. Questions such as “At what age is it appropriate to start education in general education schools?” and “After what stage of education is it appropriate to start the orientation process?” are answered by providing examples from the education systems of countries that have achieved successful results in this area. The author has substantiated several educational models proposed for implementation in the 12-year education system by drawing on the experiences of developed and developing countries, as well as the opinions expressed in the monitoring and surveys conducted among the teaching staff, high school students, and parents in Azerbaijani schools.
