MULTICULTURALISM IN SCHOOL COUNSELING IN TUrKIYE
In this study, it is aimed to examine the place of multiculturalism in school counseling practices in Türkiye. In this regard, firstly, the concept of multiculturalism is explained. Multiculturalism and its impact on society are examined on a theoretical basis. Before examining the place of the concept in school counseling practices in Türkiye, the historical and anthropological structure of Türkiye is discussed in terms of multiculturalism. According to this review, legal arrangements have been made for the multicultural structure in Türkiye since the Ottoman Empire. It is seen that with the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye, evaluations, and negotiations on the legal and personal rights of minority groups continued. In terms of school counseling, multiculturalism is a prerequisite for the profession. According to research, school counselors may have difficulties working with different minority groups or refugees. In order to carry out school counseling services in accordance with multiculturalism, the importance of supervision in psychological counseling education, knowledge and awareness gain are highlighted. In order to increase the competencies of school counselors, multicultural counseling approach should be fairly included in the education process.
