THE WAYS TO DEVELOP CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

The article deals with the ways of developing critical thinking skills of high school students (X-XI grades) in English language teaching. Developing critical skills is an active process based on a topic or material that requires meaningful deep thinking. The subjects of this study were 25 students in the 10th and 11th grades of the secondary school No.238 and two English teachers. The modern methods of
project-based learning based on e-Twinning project are used (PBL) as an example to examine students’ ability to interpret the situation on the topics, analyze the situation, draw conclusions, explain and control themselves. The results of this study included teachers’ proper facilitation skills, aspects of English required in project-based learning, having a rich vocabulary and pronunciation, using contextual expressions and labels locally, establishing original dialogues, or choosing a topic around a problem. The findings realized that teachers’ understanding of new techniques for exploring ways to improve critical thinking skills is poor and there is a lack of an appropriate learning environment that positively affects students’ independent thinking.
