SHUSHA BRANCH OF AZERBAIJAN STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY (1989-1992 years)




On November 28, 1973, on the basis of the Khankendi branch of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute, an independent Khankendi Pedagogical Institute was established. The main goal of the organization of the branch was to provide Azerbaijani and Armenian schools of Karabakh region, which is the ancient land of Azerbaijan, with highly qualified teaching staff. On November 28, 1973, an independent Khankendi Pedagogical University was established on the basis of the branch. The first Armenian uprising in Karabakh in 1988 effected the  teaching staff of the Azerbaijani branch of Khankendi Pedagogical University. On May 16, 1988, the teachers and students of the Azerbaijani branch of the University were expelled from Khankendi under the threat of  death by the Armenian armed forces. On November 1, 1989, the Shusha Faculty of Azerbaijan State  Pedagogical University was established in Shusha. On January 26, 1991, the Shusha branch of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University was established on the basis of the Shusha Faculty. On March 25, 1992, the staff of the branch was transferred to the city of Agjabedi. The difficulty and complicated way of development of the Shusha branch is discussed in the article.
